Red Car Interiors
My girlfriend is a nut for the color red
(like me) so, of course she bought herself a new red car. She
then went to a custom rod shop and had the whole thing totally
decked out in red. Talk about red car interiors? I've never seen
anything so red before.
Everything she could find that goes inside a car is now
red. The easy things were like the red floor mats, red
steering wheel cover and red seat covers.

Everything else she paid the custom shop to do. She didn't like
the steering wheel cover, so she had a red steering wheel installed.
They replaced the dashboard with a red one, installed a red console,
red gauges and a red carpet. Because it was a custom shop, they
offered to reupholster the seats red, so she returned the seat
covers and had the guys do a red tuck-and-roll to the front and
back seats.
They put red LED lights in the dash, a red
car stereo and even installed a red shifter knob for her.
She even had the guys install a transparent red tint stripe across
the top of the windshield.
Now, the red dome light freaked me out a little, but I have since
learned that at night your eyes respond better under red lights
because the pupil doesn't react as violently to red as it does
white light. So, I actually switched the dome light in my car
to red.
I bought her a red pine tree air freshener. I think it's chili
scented, but it doesn't matter if it was the smell of locker room
underwear - as long as it is red she just plain doesn't care.
What they couldn't get in red,
they painted. They took the rearview mirror off and the body shop
painted it red. While they were at it they removed the armrests
and painted them, too.
The shop installed a new leather headliner - in red velour.
They added red door handles and red rubber brake pedal, gas pedal
and clutch pedal covers.
The red seat belts were the funniest part. At first they told
were going to equip her ride with some wild five-point racing
belt set-up. She was all for it because the straps were red. I
told her she was nuts, and then they got real and told her they
were just bustin' her chops. The parts guys in the shop actually
found a factory original seat belt set for her, in the brightest
crimson, and installed them all the way around, front and rear.
Things got a little crazy when she asked if the shop could get
her a red airbag. The resounding answer was that messing with
the airbag system was a bad idea and so, due to liability, no.
They wouldn't even talk to her about it: red car interiors - yes.
Compromise the safety system - no.
She now, happily, has what must be one of the reddest red car
interiors anywhere and I am a little envious.
