Red Cars
Red is my favorite color, so it's no wonder I've often bought
red cars to drive. I have owned a red Ford Mustang, a red Chevy
Blazer, a red Toyota Celica, a red Audi RS 4 Quattro and a red
Dodge Caravan.

Red cars are hot.

Well, in all fairness the Caravan was
more of deep burgundy color, but it was the closest thing
to red that the local Dodge dealer had on the lot.
|
The color of each was important because I like the way red cars
look and the excited way they make me feel.
Although I would never pick a car just for its color (yeah, I
say this now), or let anyone make color the only choice I have,
(performance is really the key factor in choosing a vehicle,)
if all other things are equal, I will always choose red.
When you drive a red car, it's interesting to see how your eye
is drawn to other red cars, and red trucks, on the road. People
pay attention to red. The color just pops out in the landscape
- no matter where you are.
Driving through traffic and spotting the red cars is like taking
a drive in the Northeast into the mountains during the fall to
see the autumn colors; it is the scarlet red leaves on a maple
tree that snatches and holds your attention. Other vehicles cruise
around unnoticed - almost invisible, but let the sun glint off
a red paint job and your head turns to see, just for another second,
any red cars as they pass by.

My best friend drives a red Ford Mustang
convertible (not my old one). He says the car makes him
feel fast and free (with a need for speed). Cruising down
the highway, basking in the sunshine, head back, sunglasses
on is a fun way to spend an afternoon.

The red car, according to an urban legend, get awarded more speeding
tickets than other colored cars. In 1990 a reporter for a Tampa,
Fla. newspaper did a two-county survey of nearly 1,000 speeding
tickets issued by local law enforcement to determine if this was
true.
By comparing the percentage of red cars on the road to the percentage
of speeding tickets that red cars had received, he found there
was no credible data to support that red cars were ticketed more
than any other colored car. In fact, white cars received more
tickets.
Red is a spicy color - red pepper, chili powder. It is also the
color associated with fire and heat. Driving a red car may feel
spicy and hot, even if it is a family car or SUV used for hauling
kids to soccer practice.
But, before and after having kids there is always the red sports
car. I've had a few and will have a few more before my time is
done on this Earth. There is nothing like the color red to get
you out of bed in the morning and send you roaring down the road
to wherever life takes you.
