Red Race Cars
The red Scuderia Ferrari, one of the hottest red race cars ever
to hit the track, has traditionally been painted "race red"
for decades.
Actually, since the 1920s, all the Italian race cars
like the Alfa Romeo, Maserati and Abarth were painted
the country's official race car color of "race red"
or Rossa Corsa, which literally means red stroke.

Maybe it loses something in the translation. Or perhaps it refers
to the stroke of the engine, or a stroke of genius.

Red
is one of the most popular race car colors.
When my son was five he wanted a race car bed, and we bought
one that looked like a formula one car. Of course it was red.
While no longer the sponsor for the NASCAR race series, Winston
for years was the brand most closely associated with racing in
the United States. Red banners flew from every super speedway
up and down the east coast for the summer months of racing.
With the NASCAR Sprint Cup season set to being track testing
at Daytona Beach, Florida, it is rumored that there will be several
driver changes before the race series season opener - the Daytona
500.
One change fans can anticipate is Roger Penske team owned Dodges
will sport a new numbers for their yellow and red race cars. Driver
Kurt Busch will sport the No. 22, while his team mate Brad Keselowski
will hop in the blue No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge.
If drag racing is your thing, the NHRA is also gearing up for
a great season. With a race history that goes back to 1953, the
Full Throttle Drag Racing Series kicks off its annual season opener
at the Kragen O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Winternationals in
Pomona, California.
The Northeast Division gets underway at the Maple Grove Raceway
in Reading, Pennsylvania.
With dozens of other race series poised for the New Year as tracks
all over the country, there are certain to be plenty of red race
cars in action.
From the elite super-modified, offset engine series that races
every Saturday night in the Northeast - New York, Connecticut,
Pennsylvania and Ohio to the NASCAR series that dominates the
airwaves every Sunday afternoon from February to November, race
fans will be sure to see red race cars wherever they chose to
look.
